We are thrilled to be exhibiting new work by artists Clint Jukkala and Jonathan Waters at VOLTA NY 2015!

VOLTA NY is an invitational fair of solo-artist projects and is the American incarnation of the original VOLTA show, which was founded in Basel in 2005. VOLTA NY was conceived in 2008 as a focused, curated, boutique event that is a place for discovery. The exhibition showcases relevant contemporary art positions regardless of the artist’s or gallery’s age. By refocusing on artists through solo projects, VOLTA NY promotes a deep exploration of the work of its selected participants. These galleries must maintain deeply meaningful connections with their artists and follow them throughout their careers. In turn, invited galleries exhibit in an elegant venue, elevating their respective platforms for an experience mutually beneficial to fair visitors and the galleries alike.

Please join FRED.GIAMPIETRO at VOLTA NY 2014, an invitiational solo project for contemporary art, where we will be showcasing the work of artists Clare Grill and Anahita Vossoughi.

Clare Grill

Clare Grill makes paintings about things fading away. Drawing imagery and inspiration from family photographs and embroidery samplers produced by young women in the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, her recent work engages the complexity of women's history and traditions. Grill's paintings have an available yet rarely obvious logic. Although a source image may dictate something about her mark, her mark is not at the total will of the image.

Originally from Chicago, Grill lives and works in Queens, New York. Solo exhibitions include Reserve Ames, (Los Angeles, CA), Fred Giampietro Gallery (New Haven, CT), Edward Thorp Gallery (New York, NY), and Real Art Ways (Hartford, CT). Her work has been featured in group exhibitions throughout the United States at spaces such as Nudashank Gallery (Baltimore, MD), Marc Jancou Contemporary (New York, NY), Roots and Culture (Chicago, IL), and (forthcoming) Pennsylvania College of Art and Design (Lancaster, PA) and the New Britain Museum of American Art. Since receiving her MFA from Pratt Institute in 2005, Grill has participated in the Aljira Emerge Program (2007), the AIM Program at the Bronx Museum (2008), and received the 2011 Pratt Alumni Award to attend the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture.

Anahita Vossoughi

From aliens to runway models, a pop-culture spectacle of the body mutating, adapting and transforming presents complex issues of familiarity and distance with the somatic. My recent work pivots around intimations of the body in states of transformation, as a platform to destabilize our mediated perceptions of bodily norms and examine their complex cultural and social associations.

I transfigure raw materials and found objects to suggest the human figure in its most abstract to its most recognizable states of existence. The carving, cutting, molding, painting and juxtaposing of both traditional art materials in conjunction with the assemblage of found objects give me a broad range of methods and histories to contend with one another. The issue of bodily management, from the addition of jewelry, to surgical modification or prosthetic attachments is mimicked in the process of making my work.

By drawing from multiple histories in sculpture, painting and pop culture, accepted canonical truths are called into question, as are the authoritative use-value and social connotations of the objects and that are appropriated and transformed. My aim is to redirect and confound these associations, thereby positioning them into a space where they can be reevaluated. I want to leave myself, and the viewer without a comfortable place to land in terms of association or orientation, creating a tangled web of meaning, challenging cultural and artistic expectations.

FRED.GIAMPIETRO is pleased to have been invited to exhibit Clint Jukkala's new work at VOLTA NY 2013 .

VOLTA NY is an invitational show of solo artists' projects and is the American incarnation of the successful young fair founded in Basel in 2005. VOLTA NY was conceived by art critic and fair director Amanda Coulson to continue the original mandate of a tightly-focused, boutique event that is a place for discovery. Both Basel and New York fairs provide a showcase for current art production and relevant contemporary positions regardless of the artist or gallery's age.

By putting the focus back on artists through exclusively featuring solo projects, VOLTA NY promotes a deep exploration of the work of its selected projects, an opportunity for discoveries that move beyond those afforded by a traditional art fair. While many fairs provide a broader overview, with more represented artists in each booth, visitors to VOLTA NY compare the experience to a more focused series of intense studio visits.

In 2013 the invitational fair inaugurates its new location 82MERCER in SoHoVOLTA NY, by showcasing 94 international galleries, spanning 6 continents and spotlighting artists from 38 nations. A platform for challenging, often complementary, sometimes competing ideas about contemporary art, the strictly solo format is what gives the New York fair its unique character.

Giampietro Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in The NYC Metro Show.

THE 2nd ANNUAL METRO SHOW - A FAIR FOR THE 21st CENTURY

The METRO Show is truly a fair for the 21st Century - an innovative mix of cultures, time periods and movements. Unexpected combinations lead to vibrant dialogues between works that may never have been formerly (or properly) introduced.

Appealing to collectors with adventurous appetites and varied curiosities -- let your imagination wander!

What would a Wharton Esherick chair say to a Milton Avery painting? Or what would a 19th century schoolgirl sampler say upon encountering a drawing by Chicago recluse Henry Darger? An Ed Paschke giving a shout out to a 19th century Chinese opera mask. Grandma Moses coveting the Calder-designed necklace situated to the left of her.

Among the conversationalists:

Works by self-taught, outsider and Art Brut artists, Contemporary artwork, Traditional furniture, Folk art objects and sculpture, Native American material, Textiles and quilts, Ethnographic works, and 20th century design.
